On July 2, 2020, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) – an agency of the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) dedicated to keeping the American workforce safe and healthy – published frequently asked questions (FAQs) and answers to help protect workers from exposure to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
The FAQs from OSHA provide guidance to employers and employees about topics such as the best practices to prevent the spread of infection during the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, workers’ rights to express concerns about workplace conditions, testing for the Coronavirus, worker training, and returning to work.
“OSHA developed these FAQs based on inquiries received from the public,” Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of Labor for Occupational Safety and Health Loren Sweatt stated in an OSHA news release. “OSHA is committed to giving employers and workers the information they need to work safely in this rapidly changing situation.”
OSHA has also published Guidance on Preparing Workplaces for COVID-19 and Guidance on Returning to Work to assist employers in reopening workplaces and help employees resume operations during the Coronavirus pandemic. Under the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970, employers are responsible for providing safe and healthy workplaces for their employees. OSHA helps ensure these conditions by setting and enforcing standards, and providing training, education, and assistance. For more information about OSHA, visit www.osha.gov.
