The U.S. Department of Labor’s (DOL) Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) will help businesses and organizations nationwide recognize the importance and successes of workplace safety and health programs during Safe + Sound Week from August 12th to 18th, 2019, according to an OSHA news release.

Safe + Sound Week is a nationwide event held each August that recognizes the successes of workplace health and safety programs and offers information and ideas on how to keep America’s workers safe. In 2018, more than 2,700 businesses helped to raise awareness about the health and safety of workers.

The week-long event will encourage employers to implement workplace safety initiatives, and highlight contributions of workers to improve safety. Businesses that incorporate safety and health programs can help prevent injuries and illnesses, reduce workers’ compensation costs, and improve productivity.

Organizations of any size or in any industry looking for an opportunity to show their commitment to safety to workers, customers, the public, or supply chain partners can participate in Safe + Sound Week to learn more about how to help plan and promote safety and health plans.

“Leadership commitment matters and demonstrates workplace safety is a priority. Safe + Sound Week reminds employers that safety and health programs help businesses save money, eliminate injuries, and most importantly save lives,” said Acting Assistant Secretary of Labor for Occupational Safety and Health Loren Sweatt.

Employers are responsible for providing safe and healthful workplaces for their employees under the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970. OSHA helps ensure these conditions for America’s working men and women by setting and enforcing standards and providing training, education, and assistance.
